One thing’s for certain, February 11th will not soon be forgotten in the short history of the Rouge et Or. This is the night they stormed through the gate of division 3.8, and dismantled the team known as “Layin’ it up weak”. And boy were they ever weak! GM Morwood let it be known to his players ahead of time that he would he would pony up free Montreal poutine for a year to the player of game for his team, if they contributed to a team win. Since they don’t have poutine in Italy , Rodrigo Brenta decided he’d take Morwood up on the offer, and tore it up with 49 points in his first regular season game ever with the club. The other team just had no answer for this guy, he was relentless. Who knew poutine could inspire a person so much? After the first quarter it was 25-6.
The other part of the story for the Rouge et Or was the boys down the middle. Prego and Gravel were kicking A$$ and taking numbers out there. Gravel, the young Canadian, had a ‘quiet night’, picking up ten points and dominated the boards with 18 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. Prego , the other bash brother, poured in 10 points, amassed 14 rebounds and stole two as well.
Overall it was a dominant performance , 103-46, outrebounding 51-36, 23-10 in assists, 11-4 in steals, 9-5 in blocks. One thing is for certain, for one day at the Division 3 buffet, GM Morwood’s Rouge et Or dined like Kings! Maybe they will end up dwelling in the basement for the remainder of the season, but for opening night in Canada, it was magical!!!
