Scorching hawt off the cupboardOne of the greatest Irish U21 teams will soon come to a humbling finish as they lost in their last scrimmage against a lower ranked Norway team. This surprising defeat doesn’t taint the incredible achievements that this team has accomplished. This years U21s have climbed 9 places in the world rankings to an incredible 39th position. Their record boast sat 9-5 this year and a competitive record of 4-4. This included another massive upset by the Paddies who beat a Ukraine team (ranked 13 positions higher) by a point.
The argument for this being the most talented group of U21s can be rung through towns from North to South with names such as Nick Brown, James Cummins, Stephen Farquharson , Kevin Fahy, Anthony Gilbert, Michael Tracey and John Binchy echoing louder then the angelus in deep routed catholic towns. Nick Brown finishes 2nd in all time assists while also breaking a single season record of assists with 81. He is also ranked 2nd and 3rd for most assists in a game with 13 twice. Team Captain and womanizer, James “Cumm” Cummins is the most polished U21 player to cum through the last 5 seasons and will be a National Team player sooner rather than later. The same can be said for James’s best friend, this season’s top scorer in Stephen Farquharson who has absolutely led by example and was a role model for any up-and-coming guards wishing to make the Irish U21s. The anchors of the post of Kevin, Toni and Binch ‘The Snitch’ have resembled their godly predecessors. Binch and Toni both ascended into the top 10 rebounders of all time and discovered a bond only silk can rival.
As the seasons change and the earth rotates, time will proceed, and death will arrive. The same applies to this overachieving Irish Clan – out with the old and in with the new. The new recruits will have dreams of raising the Irish flag in glory, however we can all dream. The team next year appears to be barely able to bounce a ball so there will be a season or two before we achieve our winning ways again.
