Is there any advantage or disadvantage scheduling a scrimmage against a team much more skilled, higher league, with an obvious greater challenge? Or is it better to schedule a scrimmage against a sure win?

Thanks!

I guess you only have to bear the strength of your opponent in mind for the distribution of minutes played by each player. Against a weaker opponent subs and reserves will get more minutes than against a strong opponent (when your best players are set as starters). Otherwise there should be no advantages or disadvantages at all.

Lennuk7 notes getting the right playing minutes. This applies to all players. However, I will add to what Lennuk7 notes and refer specifically to training, as this is a large part of the game.

If, like me, you are training players, then the Scrimmage game (the third game of the week that contributes to minutes) is important from a training perspective.

I often train one or two players in all games, including the Scrimmage as most managers do. The last thing I want is for my trainee to foul out in 36 minutes and not get his training minutes while damaging his game shape. Therefore, I chose a weak Scrimmage opponent every week. I go to the Scrimmage page, and in the dropdown menu, request a team that is ranked 10000 or higher. I have found teams ranked this high (low) don't have any monster $100k+ players that my trainee will foul out early against.

With that said, if your trainee(s) is/are older (21+) then the Scrimmage opponent might not matter as much.

IF you aren't at all concerned with your players minutes (maybe you are training GS0 or training players, then it doesn't matter about your Scrimmage opponent as a win is meaningless then.

This is what I loosely meant but you described it way better! It's interesting that you mentioned a player fouling out due to personal fouls. I haven't really observed the definite trend myself that players would foul-out more often (or gather more fouls in general) against stronger opponents, though the logic is there. Therefore I always thought there to be some hidden balancing factor in the game engine that would avoid that.
But I agree that MrJ makes a good point that it always depends on what type of training you have active for the week and what type of players (age and importance in roster) you are training for choosing your scrimmage opponent.

Yeah. And I've noticed from the flip side...I've had my decent player foul out against scrubs! I'm not sure how the GE results in this.

Therefore, I always (training players or not) try to choose a Scrimmage opponent weaker than my team. :-)
