Just under five hundred lucky fans, having paid the $1000 tickets, witnessed the first ever Derby Allstar game between the Swan River Serpents and the Westopian Tigers. The crowd crammed into the Nest, a carefully selected neutral arena, to witness an epic first encounter between the two clubs. Marino Huysegoms, known as 'the ram', was unstoppable all night, pouring in a game-high 48 points together with 10 rebounds. Having just won the inaugural 3-point competition, he led the Tiger Allstars despite them falling short by the end of the game.
The Serpent Allstars, led by the Kostya Regis (the King) was beaten out first in the 3-point competition, and then in scoring, both by the ram. He finished with 40 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. It was the Serpent Allstars, however, who had all the answers all night. And, despite a brave fightback by the Tigers in the 4th, held on to win by 8 points in an epic first contest.
