SEASON 69: Beware of the Dragons!?

Well, the new season is upon us and maybe...just maybe...we can breathe life into this forum...similar to how the Bendigo Dragons will breathe fire into this league...

So, what will this season bring us?

Firstly, congratulations to Jerries for their Victorious last season, culminating with a 2-1 series win over the HawthornFC.
And well done, Hawthorn FC, who were also able to promote to Div II on account of their 19-3 end of season record.

So, who dropped down? Well, the Adelaide DJays have dropped into our Division, and look like they will acclimatise well here in Div III.2.

A few teams drafted well with the Swan River Serpents $12k 19 yo at Pick 4, JIKz's $4.5k 19 yo Superstar at Pick 6, together with the Tassie Devils's 18 yo MVP 6'11" (my No.2 pick...grrr) at Pick 8 being the best of the first round in my opinion. Tassie Devils with the best of those probably.

And then there's the training that occurred across the division last season.

In the Great 8, all 5 teams trained well last season: Bendigo Dragons, Danphat, Swan River Serpents, Tassie Devils and the Zhou Team.

In the Big 8, most teams trained: Adelaide DJays, Bayside Pacers and the Southern Storm.

Let's talk salaries:

As the title of this post (Beware of the Dragons) suggests, the Bendigo Dragons are looking dangerous with a $443k roster! In order of the size of the rosters, here is Div III.2:

1 / $443k / Bendigo Dragons / Big 8
2 / $313k / Bayside Pacers / Big 8
3 / $244k / south side slammers / Big 8
4 / $213k / Zhou Team / Great 8
5 / $191k / danphat / Great 8
6 / $176k / LUTHCO / Big 8
7 / $168k / Southern Storm / Big 8
8 / $162k / Tassie Devils / Great 8
9 / $131k / Adelaide DJays / Big 8
10 / $97k / Five Day Creek Upper Out / Great 8 (BOT)
11 / $96k / Wagga Wagga Wombat Collective / Big 8 (BOT)
12 / $95k / Swan River Serpents / Great 8
13 / $92k / Black Bandits / Great 8 (BOT)
14 / $89k / S L A M / Great 8 (BOT)
15 / $88k / Shohoku34 / Big 8 (BOT)
16 / $86k / chicago celtics / Big 8 (BOT)

Yes, I know I know...my club, the Swan River Serpents are wedged between all the BOTS! I know! We are a young HG team 2 seasons into this new journey. But don't be lulled into thinking we will give you a BOT-like loss. That was season 68, and this is a new season. Anyway, I digress.

Predictions?

Well, salaries don't lie and of the Bendigo Dragon's $443k roster, $404k of that is their Top 8. So, to all those in the league thinking about taking it out this season, you'd better bring in a gun or three if you want to take out the Dragons who, if they choose to, are hot favourites for the Championship this season. Dark horse 1 for me is the Bayside Pacers and the Zhou Team would be a second dark horse to be mindful of. And finally, it would be remiss of me to exclude the Adelaide DJays who just dropped down from Div II. Depending on their finances, their plans and their intentions, this season could become one worth watching at the top.

Well, that's my 2 cents worth. Anyone else alive and kicking here who wants to chime in? Tell me how bad my predictions are? Maybe you want the league to know your name now...well, speak up!

Otherwise, good luck everyone. You still have 2 seasons before I will take this league...so enjoy!

THINK YOU KNOW WHO WILL WIN?

Don't forget to make it known in the poll below.

Quadruple-Double!

Check out the Adelaide DJays' player's effort: (54491399)

EDIT: I know he beat up a BOT, but still...a nice individual effort.

So, how many of what potential?

0 = Announcer x 1
1 = Bench Warmer x 1
2 = Role Player x 1
3 = 6th Man x 2
4 = Starter x 14
5 = Star x 10
6 = Allstar x 6
7 = Perennial Allstar x 4
8 = Superstar x 5
9 = MVP x 4
10 = Hall of Famer x 0
11 = All Time Great x 0

So, if we use the Potential = Balls of 1ball, 2balls etc then:

Regarding the Overall Potential quality of this draft:

There were 3 x 1 ball players
There were 16 x 2 ball players
There were 16 x 3 ball players
There were 9 x 4 ball players
There were 4 x 5 ball players

And, sadly, of those 5 ball players - ALL 4 of them

G'day all, sorry for crashing your page.
For those of you who don't know me I'm the current National Team manager for Aus (thanks for the recent re-election). I'm going to pop this message into a lot of the league boards seeking some feedback. I'd like to set up a bit of a think tank about what a "modern" National team build/squad/training plan might look like to help push our National team a little higher. I think it's fair to say despite having a reasonable squad in terms of what had traditionally been the desired builds for a National player we're not getting over the line in some wins I feel we should, so I'm looking to do some knowledge gathering in the off-site forum and brainstorm how we can push the National team a little higher in the rankings and win some silverware again.

If you'd like to be involved shoot me a DM (or if you are already linked into the off-site for the National Team jump on and share your ideas).
I've started posting some skill sets of National Team players from other sides as they come up for sale in the off-site forums to get a comparison of what some of the more recently successful nations are doing just for a point of reference.

Would love some feedback.

Good luck this season!

Deano
