NZ One Win Away From Round 2

With last nights victory over Kazakhstan the New Zealand U21 National Team moves one step closer to round 2 of the Asian Championship Tournament and now only need one more win to secure their spot.

An upset victory from Saudi Arabia over Pakistan earlier in the tournament means that 3 teams could end up on 3 wins each and points deferential would decide which of the 2 teams progress to the next round of the tournament.

Manager SammyD would rather not risk this. “I think we would rather win a 4th game and make sure we have it in the bag”

The task of winning another game is a big task as New Zealand’s last three games are against Pakistan, Singapore and host nation Indonesia.

“We have a tough run home but the teams spirits are high and we would be disappointed as a team not to go further in this competition.”

New Zealand takes on host nation Indonesia next week.
